REFRIGERATOR SUGAR COOKIES
Cookies and Candies
Ingredients
Directions
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift together flour, soda and salt. Cream butter until soft. Add sugar and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla.
Gradually blend in the flour mixture. Shape dough into small rolls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Roll in wax paper. Chill in refrigerator for several hours until firm; then strip off paper and cut in slices using a sharp knife.
Transfer cookies to greased baking sheet and bake at about 400° for 8 to 10 minutes or until nicely browned.
Sprinkle with granulated sugar.
I make these ahead and store in refrigerator and then use for small children to bake. May be decorated with raisins or chocolate bits.
