WALNUT BREAD
Breads
Ingredients
- 1 loaf
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Stir in 3/4 of the chopped nuts. Add the egg, well beaten. Add milk and vanilla and mix until blended. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan. Pour in batter. Sprinkle remaining nuts on top. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes until golden brown. Let stand in pan for 10 minutes; then turn on wire rack to cool.
Instead of one 9x5 loaf pan, this will make 4 or 5 mini-loaves. With 4 children, these mini-loaves make great Christmas presents for Sunday School, School Teachers and other Adult Leaders.
TIP: To help yeast dough rise evenly and quickly, set the bowl of dough on a heating pad with the temperature control set on medium.
